  • All the Centre’s clients are now on eCdT

    ​On 12 December 2016, an important milestone was achieved for the Translation Centre as the last of its 64 clients successfully migrated to eCdT, the new translation workflow management system. Clients now use the eCdT Client Portal module for processing their requests, from placing orders to downloading deliverables and providing client feedback.

  • Thierry Fontenelle receives honorary degree

    ​On 8 December 2016, the Université Catholique de Louvain (in Belgium) granted Thierry Fontenelle, the head of the Translation Department, the title of Doctor honoris causa.

  • Seminar on subtitling best practices

    21 December 2016 -

    ​On 25 November 2016, the Translation Centre was delighted to receive a second visit from Patricia Kerres, deputy chairperson of the translation programme committee and lecturer in subtitling at the Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL). She shared her passion for this area of translation with around forty participants, most of whom were translators, in a two-hour session.

  • The Centre will translate for the Bio-based Industries Joint Undertaking

    ​The Translation Centre signed an agreement with the Bio-based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI JU) on 17 November 2016. This brings the Centre’s total number of clients to 64.

  • EU Agencies at the European Parliament

    05 December 2016 -

    ​On 6 & 7 December, the Director of the Translation Centre, Máire Killoran, will participate in the EU Agencies Forum at the European Parliament in Brussels.

  • Welcoming the European Border and Coast Guard Agency

    17 October 2016 -

    ​On Thursday 6 October last, Frontex, the European agency for the management of operational cooperation at the external borders, changed its name to the European Border and Coast Guard Agency. The Translation Centre has been collaborating with the agency since it was set up in 2005.

    ​This is the slogan chosen by the International Federation of Translators (FIT) to mark International Translation Day 2016. The event is traditionally celebrated on 30 September, the feast of St Jerome who is the patron saint of translators.

  • Learning foreign languages in the European Union

    ​​Eurostat (the Statistics Office of the European Union) has published its statistics on language learning at primary and secondary levels just in time for the European Day of Languages, celebrated on 26 September each year.

  • The ICTI brochure on Interpreting and Translating for Europe is now in Irish

    Several years ago, the Interinstitutional Committee for Translation and Interpretation (ICTI) started a campaign to promote language studies among young Europeans. The release of a brochure called ‘Interpreting and Translating for Europe’ was part of this campaign.

  • A delegation of Brazilian students visits the Translation Centre

    On Tuesday, 5 July 2016, a group of around 20 students from Brazil visited the Translation Centre. They were welcomed by the Head of the Translation Department, who introduced them to the history, mission and activities of the Centre.

    ​​On 14 and 15 April, a member of the Language and Technology Support Section attended two training sessions organised in Rome by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the University of Rome Tor Vergata.

  • Celebrating Europe together!

    Luxembourg City’s twentieth annual Festival of Europe will be held on Saturday 21 May from 11:00 to 17:30. It celebrates the anniversary of the Schuman Declaration (9 May 1950), in which the idea of creating a European Coal and Steel Community was first proposed.

  • Conference on legal translation in Korea

    ​On 22 April 2016, Thierry Fontenelle, the Head of the Translation Department, was in Seoul, South Korea, to deliver a lecture at a conference organised by the Center for Legal Translation (CLT) of the Korea Legislation Research Institute (KLRI). Also present were Rytis Martikonis, Director-General of the Commission’s Directorate-General for Translation (DGT), who had been invited by the KLRI to give a keynote speech on EU multilingual law making, and Hans te-Winkel, Senior Expert at the Legal Service of the European Commission.

  • Our language services at a glance

    ​Translation is, of course, the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about our agency. And rightly so, as translation is our core business. Last year, we translated no less than 730 000 pages for our clients. What is less known is that the Centre also provides other services, such as subtitling, editing and terminology work.

  • The Translation Centre takes part in the race against cancer

    12 April 2016 -
    Over the weekend of 19 and 20 March 2016 the Grand Duchy took a stand against cancer. More than 10 500 people took part in the Relais pour la vie organised by Fondation Cancer. The Translation Centre was represented by a team of 40 people who took it in turns to run for 24 hours on the track at the Coque, a sports stadium in Luxembourg's capital.

  • Happy Translation Day to one and all!

    Translators have double reason to celebrate this month. We had the European Day of Languages on 26 September and International Translation Day takes place on 30 September. You may be wondering what lies behind these dates. The answer is Saint Jerome, the patron saint of translators, whose feast day is traditionally celebrated on the last day of September.
