IATE

The Interactive Terminology for Europe (IATE) project launched in 1999 by the Translation Centre was a significant achievement for interinstitutional cooperation. Initially designed to manage and standardise the terminology of EU agencies and later to support the multilingual drafting of EU texts, IATE has grown into a complex and dynamic terminology management system.

IATE has been available to the public since 2007, and brings together the terminological resources of all the EU translation services. The Translation Centre manages the technical aspects of the project on behalf of the project partners, which are the translation services of the European Commission, the Council of the European Union, the European Parliament, the Court of Auditors, the European Economic and Social Committee/Committee of the Regions, the Court of Justice, the European Investment Bank and the European Central Bank. Since the launch of its fully-redesigned version in 2018, IATE has been further developed, providing a new Interpreters’ view, new data sharing and reuse features (download, collections), as well as enhanced data management options (bookmarks, entry status, cross-references).
