Support from the Translation Centre for the Luxembourgish cancer solidarity event Relais pour la Vie
During the weekend of 1 and 2 April 2017, the Grand Duchy joined in the fight against cancer with another Relais pour la Vie (‘relay for life’) organised by the Luxembourg Fondation Cancer.
More than 10 500 people and 375 teams took part in the event, with the Translation Centre contributing two teams totalling 65 people, who took it in turns to run or walk for 24 hours on the running track of the Coque, the national sports centre in Kirchberg.
This was the twelfth consecutive Relais, which aims at recognising and honouring the courageous battle fought by people with cancer by showing solidarity and raising funds for local cancer sufferers and cancer research in Luxembourg. It is the sixth time that the Centre has participated in this event.
The highlights included the Survivor and Caregiver Tour, the opening and closing team parades and the traditional Candle Ceremony, with a moment of silence in memory of those who have lost their lives to cancer, as well as the words ‘AVEC VOUS’ displayed by thousands of candles in the centre of the arena. Two new features this year were the ‘Food Lab’ (five workshops promoting a healthy balanced diet) and ‘Café des patients’ (a pop-up cafe serving tea and coffee manned by psychologists from Fondation Cancer).
The Translation Centre also raised funds for Fondation Cancer at its traditional coffee and cake morning.
