This is the theme chosen by the International Federation of Translators (FIT) to mark International Translation Day 2017. The event is traditionally celebrated on 30 September, the feast of St Jerome who is the patron saint of translators.

Eurostat (the statistical office of the European Union) has just published new statistics on language learning at primary level, right in time for the European Day of Languages celebrated on 26 September each year.

As part of the activities to celebrate the Maltese Presidency of the EU (from January to June 2017), the EU office in Valletta called on Maltese employees of the EU to visit schools in Malta to promote the EU. One of the Translation Centre’s Maltese translators took this opportunity to go back to his old school.

The Translation Centre has received the ‘SuperDrecksKëscht® fir Betriber’ quality label for the tenth year in a row through the implementation of a green housekeeping policy with respect to refuse on its premises.

From the 10-12 May 2017, representatives from the Centre attended the International Annual Meeting on Computer-Assisted Translation and Terminology (JIAMCATT) hosted at the International Criminal Court in The Hague.

The public version of the interinstitutional terminology database IATE was released on 28 June 2007 at an opening ceremony in Brussels, attended by representatives of the IATE partners and language professionals. As Mr Leonard Orban, Commissioner for Multilingualism at the time, said “IATE is a shining example of the synergy that can be created between different bodies, each unique but all with a common purpose: to bring the European message to citizens in the clearest possible form, in a language that they can understand”.
