South Korean college students visit the Translation Centre

On 1 August 2017, a group of college students from the Sogang University in South Korea visited the Translation Centre as part of their research project on institutional translation and the benefits of a centralised and coordinated terminology management.

Sponsored by LG’s Global Challenger Program (the first and oldest overseas expedition programme for university students in South Korea), they visited the European Parliament, the Translation Centre, and several universities in Europe to gain an insight into best practices in institutional translation and standards for public language service providers with the aim of issuing recommendations for their public sector translation services.

After an introduction to the Translation Centre, its mission, business model and translation workflow, the Centre’s IATE tool manager presented how terminology is managed by the different EU institutions and stored in the common terminology database IATE, where data is available for re-use by internal and external translators, experts and the general public. The ongoing developments of IATE 2 were also presented to the participants.

It was very rewarding to see that college students from so far away had selected the Centre as a leading public sector language service provider.
