OVER 25 YEARS COMMITTED TO MULTILINGUALISM

The Translation Centre for the Bodies of the European Union is an agency of the European Union. Established in Luxembourg in 1994, its main mission is to provide translation and related language services to the other decentralised EU agencies. It may also assist those EU institutions and bodies which have their own translation services when there are workload peaks or for specific projects. In total, the Centre translates for almost 70 clients. At the end of 2020, it had a total of 220 staff members, including officials, temporary agents and contract staff. TELL ME MORE

Banner IATE Tool Manager’s contribution to the Translating Europe Workshop

One of the Translating Europe Workshops (TEW) took place on 25 October, and was jointly organised by the European Commission and the University of Granada. This year’s theme was 'Translation nowadays and beyond: technological challenges and diversification of an ever-evolving profession'.

The Workshop covered topics ranging from translation specialisations and language technology to accessibility, and provided a comprehensive overview of the current state and future prospects of translation practices.

In October, the Translation Centre continued to strengthen its interagency collaboration through the visits of our Director, Ildikó Horváth, to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the European Union Agency for the Operational Management of Large-Scale IT Systems in the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice (eu-LISA).

International Plain Language Day was established on 13 October by the founders of the Plain Language Association International (PLAIN), with the aim of increasing public awareness of the importance of plain language in effective communication.

The Translation Centre recently participated in the European Trados User Group Conference in Vienna. This year, the Translation Centre teamed up with experts from the EUIPO to showcase their collaborative project focused on file management for streamlined content structuring, optimising multilingual translation processes.
