Since the Translation Centre launched its subtitling service in 2015, about one third of our clients have used it. Over 15 000 minutes have been translated from and into EU and non-EU languages. Why has this service aroused such keen interest? Watch our brand-new video ‘Travelling without subtitling?’, which highlights its numerous benefits.
Last year we celebrated Europe Day with the 70th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration; this time we are setting our sights resolutely on the future. On 9 May 2021, the EU will launch the Conference on the Future of Europe, a citizen-led series of debates and discussions that will be used to draw a roadmap for structural reforms.
2020 was a very special year for the Translation Centre. Not only did we manage to guarantee full service continuity for our clients despite the COVID-19 crisis, but we also succeeded in implementing our ambitious two-year transformation plan. As it happens, this coincided with the Centre’s 25th anniversary!
On 23 March, the Centre’s Acting Director Benoit Vitale signed an agreement with the Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA). Based in Brussels, this newly created EU agency became operational on 1 April 2021.
Under the EU Financing Programme for 2021-2027, aimed at creating a Europe that is greener, more digital and better prepared for all health matters, HaDEA will play a leading role in implementing and managing the annual work programmes delegated to it by the European Commission.
The European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) has just released a multilingual thesaurus specialised in the activities it is in charge of. The Translation Centre worked on this project together with the Agency based in Bilbao (Spain), and provided equivalents in 23 EU languages plus Icelandic and Norwegian.
During the weekend of 27-28 March 2021, the Centre will take part in the ‘Relais pour la Vie’ relay run. Organised by the Luxembourg Cancer Foundation (Fondation Cancer), the event usually gathers thousands of participants who run together in support of those affected by cancer. This year, the Foundation has set up a new way of connecting people in support of cancer patients and research by bringing runners together online in the ‘Relais pour la Vie ensemble & connectés’.
