Meeting with the European Maritime Safety Agency

On 5 July 2018, the Head of the Translation Department, Thierry Fontenelle, visited the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA), which is located in Lisbon.

Thierry Fontenelle met with EMSA’s Executive Director, Mr Markku Mylly. He presented the Translation Centre’s activities and described the various types of services offered.

He explained the rationale which underlies the creation of the Translation Centre, provided information about its business model, about the range of services it offers, its quality assurance strategy, as well as the pricing structure which allows its clients to benefit from the reusable material included in its translation memories.

The Translation Centre has been cooperating with EMSA since 2003, to which it delivered 1 423 pages of translation last year. Apart from administrative documents (vacancy notices, financial statements, replies to the observations of the Court of Auditors), the Translation Centre mainly translates inspection reports from English into the language of the country visited, decisions from the Executive Director related to these visits, or occasionally, incident reports.

The Translation Centre looks forward to continuing its collaboration with EMSA and is confident that this meeting contributed to further strengthening the cooperation between the two agencies.
