Translate for Europe Forum 2022
Body

Every November, the European Commission’s Translating Europe Forum (TEF) is THE event to be at for language professionals in the EU and beyond. The 2022 edition will take place from 9 to 11 November in hybrid mode, with 400 participants present in Brussels and 2 000 connecting remotely. The motto this year is ‘ACCESS FOR ALL: Going beyond translating text’.

‘Translation and language technologies make it easier for people to access information. A tool for mutual understanding between cultures, translation is one of the invisible powers behind globalisation and economic growth. The wide availability of virtually free MT engines has seen overall translation volumes go through the roof as the world becomes ever more interconnected. Yet despite this ‘technological revolution’, demand for skilled translation professionals is growing.

The 2022 TEF will show how technology, coupled with the specialist skills and knowledge of translation professionals, is making the world a more interconnected, accessible and user-friendly place.’
The conference will be opened by Johannes Hahn, Commissioner for Budget and Administration, and it will be attended by high-level speakers from the academic world, international organisations and associations, the media, as well as language service providers and industry.

The Translation Centre will be represented by Mauro Bubnic, Head of the Translation Support Department, who will take part in a panel discussion on ‘QUALITY – Meeting the needs of end users with AI-based NLP  tools’ on 10 November, during which he will focus in particular on the Centre’s experience with light and full post-editing of machine translation.
