Back to school in Malta
He gave a presentation to over 70 fifteen-year-olds about the history of the EU, its achievements and the challenges ahead. The students were eager to know more and asked many questions about immigration, employment, travel, the euro, etc. They were also keen to find out about opportunities to study and work in another EU country.
In addition to dealing with EU topics, the Maltese translator also talked about his career. He explained what translation involved and gave an overview of proofreading, revision and interpreting.
He finished his presentation by discussing the pros and cons of living in another country. When he mentioned that from Luxembourg you could be in Belgium, France or Germany within 30 minutes, the students were very surprised – understandably so, since Malta is an island, and travelling to another country means planning ahead, as well as taking a lot more than 30 minutes!
