IATE 2 launch event

The new public version of IATE has been online since 12 November, and it is time to celebrate this important achievement! The Translation Centre is organising an event in Luxembourg on 5 December 2018 to shine a spotlight on the EU terminology database.

On 1 October 2018, Dr Doris Wohlschlägl-Aschberger, a banking expert and lawyer of 40 years’ experience, gave two information sessions at the Translation Centre on financial instruments and the challenges of the financial supervisory mechanisms. About 40 in-house translators attended and had these financial concepts explained to them.

IATE has been available to the EU institutions since 2004 and to the public since 2007. It is undoubtedly a shining example of how different organisations, which are each unique, can bring the European Union closer to its citizens. With around 1.2 million entries and over 8 million terms in the 24 official languages of the EU, IATE has become THE terminology reference not only for language professionals, but also for national experts, policy advisers, public administrations, academics and private sector companies operating across a wide range of specialist areas.

Have you heard of IATE, the terminology database of the European Union? Available in the 24 official EU languages, it contains over 8 million entries and will soon be offering new functionalities for increased efficiency.
