Meeting with CHAFEA

On 4 June 2018, the Translation Centre’s Director, Ms Máire Killoran, met with the Director of Chafea (the Consumers, Health, Agriculture and Food Executive Agency), Ms Véronique Wasbauer, and two of her Heads of Unit in order to explore ways of further strengthening cooperation with our neighbour agency, with whom we share the same building.

Chafea is tasked with the implementation of the EU Health Programme, the Consumer Programme, the Better Training for Safer Food initiative (BTSFI) and, since 2016, the Promotion of Agricultural Products Programme.

The Translation Centre has been cooperating with Chafea since 2007. Last year, it delivered over 500 translations amounting to a total of 4,681 pages to Chafea.

Discussions revolved around business development opportunities and Chafea’s multilingual needs under their relatively new remit of promotion of agricultural products. These include the translation of calls for tenders/calls for proposals and related outcomes into EU languages, but may potentially in the future also extend to translations of other documents into non-EU languages in order to enable the agency to participate in conferences or fairs organised by the agricultural sector in third countries or to receive high-level visitors from third countries.

The agency’s current mandate is valid until 2024. Many of the current programmes managed by the agency will end in 2020 and new programmes will start from 2021.
