One of the Translating Europe Workshops (TEW) took place on 25 October, and was jointly organised by the European Commission and the University of Granada. This year’s theme was 'Translation nowadays and beyond: technological challenges and diversification of an ever-evolving profession'.
The Workshop covered topics ranging from translation specialisations and language technology to accessibility, and provided a comprehensive overview of the current state and future prospects of translation practices.
The IATE Tool Manager took part remotely in a roundtable discussion on terminology management and presented the newly developed functionalities in the EU terminology system (IATE) that facilitate terminology workflow and data sharing.
The discussion was an opportunity to present to a wider audience a general view of the terminology project management module that was recently integrated into IATE. The IATE Tool Manager drew attention to data consolidation and cleaning as key activities for ensuring data quality, as supported by the Interinstitutional Guidelines on data management. Another IATE feature that was introduced during the Workshop was the recently adopted IATE online help option.
The IATE Tool Manager’s intervention was complemented by the presentation given by the terminologist of the Spanish Language Department at the Commission’s Directorate-General for Translation, who provided valuable insights on terminology, instructive examples of terminology work, with reference to the challenges, and the tools that support the terminology work of translators
