Recognising the potential of AI within the EU context, a group of EU Agencies established the EU AI Virtual Community, a forum for collaboration and knowledge exchange on AI, which has expanded its scope to accommodate the evolving needs of its members. The EU AI Virtual Community is part of the ‘Joint EU Forces on AI’ initiative, launched in 2019 by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) in partnership with the European Medicines Agency (EMA), the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and the Translation Centre.
As part of its ongoing commitment to exploring AI advancements and exchanging different strategy approaches for its implementation, the EU AI Virtual Community has been hosting the EU AI Talk annually, since 2022. This event aims to serve as an occasion to reflect on and discuss the importance and potential of artificial intelligence within the European Union, specifically concerning the public sector and the EU Agencies.
Conducted in an online live format, this year’s EU AI Talk brought together the members of the EU AI Virtual Community, along with a representative from the Multidisciplinary Institute in Artificial intelligence. The participants contributed to this enriching talk by sharing their perspectives in terms of AI and how it is starting to be implemented through different approaches for the benefit of the European Union. Our director, Ildikó Horváth, took part in this online discussion, providing insights into the implementation of AI within the Centre’s services and internal procedures.
The session covered various topics, including the ethical and governance challenges associated with advanced AI, the need to ensure transparency, and the achievement of efficiency and quality gains through AI implementation.
This second live edition of the EU AI Talk was opened to the general public and other invitees, in addition to the EU AI Virtual Community members. Therefore, the talk was followed by various stakeholders from EU bodies, universities, nongovernmental organisations, private companies, public authorities and the general public. Along with the live session, attendees had the opportunity to ask questions by means of the Teams live chat, and in the last part of the conference the panellists answered these questions.
At the Translation Centre, we firmly believe in the importance of sharing with other colleagues in the field to foster a collaborative environment that promotes innovation, knowledge exchange and continuous improvement in our practice. We were very happy to have been part of this fruitful exchange for yet another year!
